I recognized from an early age that I wanted to pursue a profession that was based on a foundation of worth and service. I have found that in Nursing. I graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1976 at the age of 24. For 14 years I practiced in the areas of open heart ICU, Surgical ICU, Pediatric ICU, and Emergency Room/Trauma. It was during this time, I often saw the unfortunate results of diseases and accidents.
My role as a family nurse practitioner has provided the opportunity to interact with people in a more preventative way. I strive to develop partnerships with my patients and their physicians in order to prevent or manage diseases and attain the best possible outcomes.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Diego State University. My Master’s of Science in Nursing is from the University of San Diego with a specialization in Family Practice. I have National Certification in Family Practice through the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center.
I am a current Member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Nursing Society.
I served as past Chair and co-chair of the California Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, now called California Association of Nurse Practitioners. This organization among other things promotes professional development of nurse practitioners and works to improve the needs of healthcare consumers.
My graduate work included development of a video entitled “Nurse Practitioners: Personal Guidance to a Healthier Life”. Funded and Published for University of San Diego; written and directed by Rita Farris, Leslie Kerr, and Sandy Popovich. This video was developed for patient education regarding the role of nurse practitioners.
I look forward to working with you toward your health goals.
